Buying a home is a big decision — and it’s easy to forget to ask the right questions when looking around. We focus on appearance, light, layout, and some important things get overlooked. Later, when you move in, it will be too late for questions. Therefore, before you say “yes”, check if you have asked these 5 questions.
- Are there hidden problems in the apartment or building?
Cracks in the walls, mold, old wiring, noise from neighbors, sewage problems — these are rarely talked about by sellers. But you should ask directly: “Were there any serious breakdowns, repairs or complaints in the previous period?” - What is included in the price, and what remains only in the pictures?
In the photos, the apartment seems nicely furnished, but in the end, empty walls remain. Ask clearly: whether there are built-in wardrobes, kitchen, appliances, air conditioning, water heater, lighting and the like. - What are the realistic monthly costs?
The price of the apartment is only part of the story. Ask how much is paid for heating, water, electricity, building maintenance. This is especially important if the building is old or has an elevator, porter, video surveillance.
- What is the documentation and history of the apartment?
Who’s all signed up? Are there burdens, debts, hereditary complications? Even if it is checked by a notary, it is important to know in time. A simple question: “Is the documentation ready and are there any legal obstacles?” — can save you a lot of time and stress. - What are the neighbors and the neighborhood like?
No one wants to live next door to a nightclub or problematic tenants. The seller may not tell you everything, but you can ask: “Are there any specifics with the neighbors? Noise? Frequent works?” — or even talk to someone in front of the building.
